INACCESSIBLE POLLING STATIONS RESTRICT PWDS TO CAST THEIR VOTES

Constitution of Pakistan gives every Pakistani right to vote including Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). According to World Health Organization (WHO) more than ten percent of the population is suffering from one or other type of disability in the country. Reportedly, registered PWDs with National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is only 1,36,928 which is far below the number as compared to two percent population. Among those registered PWDs a very few could manage to access the polling stations to exercise their right to vote due to non-accessible polling booths and unfriendly atmosphere at the polling stations. In this way a large number of PWDs who qualify to exercise their right to vote could not cast their vote as a result they fail to elect their political representatives who could fight for their rights in the upper houses
